If you are a vegan, lactose intolerant, allergic, or simply don’t like the taste of dairy there’re already several dairy-free ice creams available on the market with more to come. Some of my favorites are Coconut Bliss and So Delicious.
However, last November a new line of frozen desserts, Cado, was quietly introduced to 9 states across the Midwest. According to co-founder Meghan Dowd, this is a “completely new kind of ice cream” made from organic cold-pressed avocados and is “nutrient-dense dessert that tastes divine and leaves you feeling satisfied and nourished”
Dowd, who runs the company with her brother and mother, explains to MyInforms that “high levels of healthy mono-saturated fats in avocados create the creamy texture that most people look for in ice cream-like frozen desserts, but it does not carry the same threat of an allergic reaction as more prevalent dairy-, soy- and nut-milk based frozen desserts. In addition, the frozen dessert is certified gluten-free, lending it even more gravitas with allergy-sensitive consumers or those avoiding gluten for other reasons.”
This is great news, for me at least, since I love incorporating avocados in my guilt-free raw desserts like Chocolate Banana Mousse and No-Bake Chocolate Cake. With high levels of Folic Acid and Vitamin B6, avocados help to stimulate the production of serotonin, making Cado Ice Cream a perfect comfort food!
“The brand is currently experimenting with ice cream sandwiches and bars, new flavors such as Orange Dream, Mexican Cocoa, Mocha Chip, Matcha Green Tea, and Pistachio, and plans to expand nationwide in 2017.”
